Title Development Officer

Description Position Summary: Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with major donors and prospects. Manage and grow both major and planned giving donation revenue from targeted segments of potential and current, prospect and lapsed donors. Continually communicate and match the needs and desires of the donors with the philanthropic opportunities provided by the organization.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Initiate contact with donors and potential donors and cultivate long-term relationships with them on behalf of the organization.
2. Manage and grow a portfolio of potential, current, and lapsed donors.
3. Plan and organize development activities and travel. Submit plans in advance and summary reports upon completion.
4. Achieve a thorough understanding of the donor management database and ensure that the appropriate information is updated regularly.
5. Establish and implement plans to reach annual, capital campaign and planned giving revenue and cultivation objectives.
6. Discuss and recommend major gifts, capital campaign contributions and planned giving ideas on the telephone, in correspondence, and in person in a professional manner, with technical accuracy.
7. Regular and reliable attendance at the worksite and adhere to assigned schedule – this position is not a remote or telecommute position.
8. Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures per the guidebook including all safety requirements including all safety guidelines
9. Utilize electronic time management system to input time, attendance and time off request.

Non-Essential Job Functions:
1. When budget permits attend seminars to upgrade skills and present training classes and seminars on major gifts and planned giving topics.

Education: Bachelor’s degree emphasizing non-profit management, communications, marketing, business administration, or equivalent field of study.

Experience:
1. Five years related work experience in the development/fundraising field required.
2. Excellent interpersonal and verbal relationship building skills.
3. Excellent oral presentation skills.
4. Flexibility concerning work hours and schedules (Evening work is required.)
5. National travel required.
6. Planned giving and capital campaign experience, preferred.

Computer Skills: Intermediate end user with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook. Former database/donor management software experience, preferred.

Certificates & Licenses: Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), a plus.
