The Desktop Support Technician II / System Administrator will play an integral role in managing servers and providing technical support to the user community in a cross-platform environment (Windows//Macintosh) and must have a firm understanding of network and system administration principles using industry best practices. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Oakland, CA team to ensure high availability of critical business systems and will provide desktop support services for local and remote users, as well as interacting with vendors to gather requirements and evaluating solutions to meet emerging business needs.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Process help desk tickets in tandem with Oakland IT team. Provide desktop support for in-house staff and remote users while adhering to regional IT protocols.
  • Set up new hires: Create login/email accounts, setup/configure computers, network folder access, mobile devices, etc.
  • Support and administration of IT responsible areas in production environment that includes: Servers, laptops and network services (email, remote access, wireless, printing, ERP systems, Virtual Hosts).
  • Building, deploying, and supporting Windows servers (AD, Exchange etc.) in a virtualized environment (Hyper-V Replica).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software issues, primarily on Windows and some Mac laptop systems and coordinate warranty repairs.
  • Daily monitoring and administration of servers to ensure high availability of critical business systems and services.
  • Perform operating system and application upgrades, install and configure third party software, (VPN, Anti-Virus, etc.) and apply system patches.
  • Maintain server backup system, scheduling and offsite rotation practices.
  • Create and maintain support documentation and network diagrams of the enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Perform minor moves/adds/changes on telecom infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain system support scripts/GPO’s as necessary.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience and a strong understanding of implementing/administering Windows and Macintosh systems (Windows 7, Server 2012 R2 and OS X) in an enterprise environment, as well as other mainstream operating systems and applications.
  • Experience in supporting a virtualized infrastructure environment. (Hyper-V Replica).
  • Understanding of multi-site Active Directory/Exchange server structure and administration.
  • Experience with Office365; Account setup, distribution lists, permissions etc.
  • Fundamental understanding in backup/archiving principles using industry standard solutions (Commvault, Backup Exec, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Acronis image deployment software.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP and related networking protocols, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IMAP, LDAP, RDP, etc.
  • Computer Science/Information Systems or related education background is preferred as well as appropriate industry certifications (CCNA, MCSE).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Stamina, character, sense of humor and work ethic appropriate for a fast-paced, team oriented company.
  • Occasional after-hours response to critical situations may be required (remotely and/or in the office).  Minimal travel may be required as well.
