Description Position Summary:

The Strategic Tutor helps student-athletes enhance and develop their academic skills by teaching skills and strategies that support learner independence, including but not limited to, time management, organizational skills, and study strategies.

Responsibilities for all Positions at Kansas Athletics:
1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures.

2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures.

3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.

4. Support the athletic departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.

5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members.

6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

1. Assist student-athletes with the development and enhancement of academic strategies including time management, organizational skills, and study strategies. i.e. note-taking, test preparation, reading and writing.

2. Develop individualized support plans that meet the student’s specific academic goals and needs.

3. Create study guides, sample quizzes and other aides to assist the student-athlete succeed in the classroom.

4. Monitor and document academic progress in coursework, communicating student progress to the academic counselors on a daily and/or weekly basis.

5. Participate as a member of the staff "Learning Community" by working to solve student problems and developing improved tutoring techniques.

6. Serve as an "expert learner" model for student-athletes.

7. Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to academic progress and/or personal information concerning student-athletes.
Requirements Required:
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Ability to work between 10 – 12 hours per week (schedule determined on class/practice schedule)
• Strong collaborative, interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven experience as a self-starter

Preferred:

• General study skill strategies
• Background as an educator or program of study that supports student academic development
