Position Summary: The Strategic or Instructional Tutor provides intensive academic support to student-athletes by reviewing specific content information, directly teaching learning strategies, and modeling good information processor skills. Generally, tutors support student-athletes in their pursuit of academic excellence, graduation, and attainment of independent learner status. In short, tutors provide content expertise and serve as a model for student-athletes in the techniques, strategies, and beliefs that successful learners employ as they acquire new knowledge, solve problems and complete academic tasks.

Responsibilities of all Positions with Kansas Athletics:
1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures.

2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures.

3. Foster cooperative working relationships with fellow staff members within the Department.

4. Support the athletics department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.

5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members.

6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times when representing Kansas Athletics.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Position:
1. Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing what will be accomplished during each session. This includes text review and strategy instruction.

2. Begin all sessions punctually, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student's needs.

3. Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions. The Directors must be notified 24 hours in advance prior to any canceled sessions.

4. Attend and participate in discussions and follow-up meetings for tutors as scheduled by the Directors of STP.

5. Communicate student progress by completing academic update reports on a weekly basis.

6. Participate as a member of the staff "Learning Community" by working to solve student problems and developing improved tutoring techniques.

7. Serve as an "expert learner" model for student-athletes.

8. Teach learning strategies to student-athletes.

9. Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to academic progress and/or personal information concerning student-athletes.
Requirements Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have a 3.5 G.P.A. or higher in the subject(s) tutored. Applicants need to be available to work a minimum of ten hours each week; a maximum of 20 for international students; a maximum of 29 hours for students and non-students. Non-English speaking applicants must have taken and passed the English proficiency examination.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in tutoring and/or teaching.
Available to work a varied schedule during the week; weekday mornings and/or evenings are preferred; limited weekday afternoon and Sunday evening opportunities are available.
