Description Position Summary:

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing cleaning and maintenance of the interior facilities, as well as outside facilities as needed, related to property operated by Kansas Athletics. This position is also responsible for setting up for practices and events, event cleanup and maintenance as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor events as well as outside sponsored events.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.

2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.

3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.

4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.

5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.

6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

1. Performs daily interior facility maintenance of Kansas Athletics facilities to ensure event readiness, including but not limited to, unscheduled repairs and preventive maintenance; basic hardware installations; electrical repairs and light replacement; ceiling tile repair and replacement, basic plumbing repair and fixture replacements; move and repair furniture, etc. ;

2. Performs daily building event set-up and tear-down, including but not limited to offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms and lobby areas;

3. Performs daily cleaning and custodial work assignments, including but not limited to, locker rooms, restrooms, operations areas; sports medicine areas; equipment services areas; and storage areas;

4. Monitors custodial/maintenance supplies and makes requests to supervisor;

5. Repairs and maintains various types of interior maintenance and custodial equipment;

6. Operates multiple types of equipment and machines, including but not limited to, fork lifts, aerial lifts; carpet cleaners, vacuums, floor scrubbers, reel cleaners, hand tools and other custodial related equipment; blowers, trucks, routers, golf carts,;

7. Assists in event cleanup and maintenance and in the coordination of event cleanup groups;

8. Assists landscape maintenance staff as required;

9. Assists in the setup and tear down for practices and events;

10. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements Required:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
• Ability to safely operate multiple types of machinery and equipment , including, forklifts, aerial lifts, floor scrubbers and hand tools;
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and over an extended period of time;
• Knowledge of and ability to use and determine the appropriate cleaning equipment and chemicals according to manufacturer’s recommendations and standard usage;
• Ability to kneel, bend, squat, or twist for long periods of time;
• Valid driver’s license;
• Ability to work an irregular and extended schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays related to scheduled events.

Preferred:
• A minimum two years of experience in facilities maintenance work and/or custodial services in an athletics related area.
