Description The Software Development Manager will lead a team of software developers in the definition and implementation of cloud-based services designed for management of electric utility assets. S/he will interact on a daily basis with Doble management, engineering and solutions groups to develop and refine product requirements and communicate status. The Manager will also coordinate special projects with electric utility company clients.

**Please note: this position is presently located in Watertown, MA but will be relocating to Marlborough, MA in the fall of 2019. All applicants must have reliable transportation to both locations. The Marlborough office will not be accessible via public transit. **

Essential Job Functions

• Recruit and manage a team of 10-20 software engineers. The team will be a mix local and remote, full-time and contract developers.
• Specify, architect and lead the development and timely delivery of cloud-based product services.
• Work effectively with Software Quality Assurance groups to ensure quality software releases.
• Work effectively with Client Service groups to ensure client satisfaction.
• Work efficiently with all levels and groups within the Doble organization.
• Mentor and grow team members.
• Work with Doble Project Managers to manage project schedule and budget.
• Able to clearly articulate project status to other project members and management.
• Work to continually improve the efficiency of the software development environment and process.
• Interact efficiently on a regular basis with Doble clients and vendors.
• Able to express ideas clearly in written and oral communications.
• Interview and hire software development personnel.
• Direct product definition, architecture and schedule.
• Manage project development budget.
• Evaluate and recommend user interface, data processing, and data security decisions.
• Evaluate and recommend efficient techniques for processing and presenting data to human users.
• Evaluate and recommend development tools and process improvement techniques.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science

EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• 7+ years’ experience developing software and working with software development teams.
• 5+ years’ experience managing software development teams and projects.
• Experience with software development languages such as C, C++, C#/JAVA, Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft ASP.NET
• Experience working with teams that architect and develop web portals using HTML5, AJAX, PHP, Ruby Rails, Silverlight, and/or CSS3 technologies.
• Experience deploying portals in Apache, IIS 6, and/or NGINX environments
• Understanding of cloud based offerings such as AWS or Azure
• Understanding of various DBMS technologies such as SQL Server or MySQL.
• Understanding of Web Service (SOAP or Restful Web API) data aggregation through XML, JSON messaging.
• Understanding operational concepts for production systems
• Experience in code documentation, source controls and issue tracking systems (GitHub, TortoiseHG, Jira)
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment technologies and paradigms
• Experience parsing and presenting information from large-scale distributed data systems.
• Experience in design and development of data security architectures.
• Experience in design optimization for performance and security.
• Proven expertise in the Agile development methodology.
• Proven track record of implementing and delivering software products in client-server and web-based environments.
• Front end widget control development with emphasis on high speed performance, on-demand data reads including SQL, MySQL, or RESTful API.

OTHER HELPFUL EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working with database historians such as OSIsoft PI.
• Knowledgeable in electric power utility technology, equipment and testing methodology
• Experience working with LESS or similar adaptive CSS grid framework for PC, Tablet, and Smart Phone devices.
• Provide links to 2 or 3 portals of their management to demonstrate capabilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Strong knowledge of programming languages/technologies including C/C++/C# and AJAX.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft development environment including Visual Studio 2015/Visual Studio Cache and .NET.
