Summary of Organization:

The Academic Internship Council (AIC) is a global not-for-profit internship organization that is part of the CIEE family. AIC specializes in customized, academically directed internship programs in Berlin, Boston, Cape Town, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York City, San Francisco, Santiago (Chile), Singapore, and Toronto. AIC's dynamic team throughout the world works with over fifty university partners and places students across a broad spectrum of industries and organizational settings. AIC programs are customized and based on the needs of its university partners.

Summary of Position:

The AIC New York City Program Manager is responsible for assisting the New York City Director in the planning, organization, and execution of all internship program activities in New York City, the central focus of which is placing students into relevant internships. The Program Manager also participates in organization-wide projects and activities related to program development, university relations, industry-area networking, and sharing best practices in experiential education.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist and collaborate with the Director in overseeing all the activities of AIC’s internship and programmatic operations in New York City
  • Provide internship placements and related services (including processing of J-1 visas) to undergraduate and graduate students participating in AIC programs
  • Consult and advise students on their professional development by holding individual career assessment meetings as part of a personalized placement process
  • Conduct employer and internship sponsor outreach at various professional associations, career fairs, and networking events
  • Maintain and expand network of employer relationships
  • Develop, coordinate, and host workshops and presentations for students on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques, internship success, and workplace culture
  • Liaise with local authorities to provide internship students and local employers with appropriate visa guidance and support
  • Coordinate relevant program components such as housing, academic coursework and orientation or cultural activities
  • Maintain positive and productive relationships with AIC partner universities
  • Assist on market research and provide content for marketing and internship program materials

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience in sales or business development preferred
  • Enthusiastic about experiential education and working with undergraduate students
  • Strong networking and client service skills
  • Knowledge of New York City industry sectors
  • Good judgment and the ability to prioritize workflow, juggling multiple responsibilities
  • Strong cross-cultural awareness
  • Collaborative and consultative team player
  • Excellent written and oral communication required
  • Ability to work autonomously and in small group situations 
  • Strong research skills and close attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Salesforce (preferred) 
  • Open to brief periods of domestic and international travel
  • Committed to doing important work without taking yourself too seriously

    • Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as using a telephone, answering emails, filing paperwork, viewing a computer screen, and operating office equipment.
