Summary of Position:

The Communications Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of internal communications in support of the Executive Office/CEO communications to CIEE staff and VIPS, as well as directed external communication that position/reinforce CIEE as the leader in international education and exchange. The Communications Manager will directly manage 1-2 interns, freelance writers/designers and external PR consultants as needed.  This position works closely with the President’s office, marketing managers associated with our respective businesses, and senior leadership across CIEE. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Executive Office

  • Develop comprehensive communications strategies that support the overall strategic direction of the organization
  • Plan and produce executive communications calendar
  • Plan and produce press releases, executive presentations and remarks, corporate brochure, and related communications
  • Assess and evaluate communications, report findings, and recommend improvements
  • Produce ad hoc communications to staff from the CEO

Internal Communication

  • Create, write, and distribute Employee Newsletter
  • Provide expertise and share knowledge with internal business units on communications projects and media events

Social Media

  • Oversight of Corporate Social Channels - CIEE Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter
  • Manage corporate pages on ciee.org website

Monitoring

  • Monitor CIEE Media email/voicemail and media monitoring
  • Manage inbound media inquiries
  • Monitor Third-Party Review Sites (BBB, Yelp, etc.)
  • Direct Internal and External Crisis communications
  • Oversee the development and communication of CIEE Brand Guidelines
  • Organize Condolence Communications as needed
Requirements

Knowledge & Skills Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, the areas of Communications, or Journalism combined with related professional experience
  • 5+ years related work experience in progressively more responsible positions, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • International experience preferred
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Intimate knowledge of Associated Press Style Guide
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to present ideas and information clearly
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team – internal staff as well as external freelancers/partners
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high quality work on time and on budget
  • Extreme attention to detail and outstanding organization skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively across business units and to set and recommend priorities.
  • Flexibility and interest in working in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-orientated work environment
  • Some evening and weekend work as well as travel both domestic and international may be required
  • Other duties as assigned
