Description ALA is seeking a part-time Associate Editor, Audio to join Booklist Publications, a unit of ALA publishing.

Reporting to the Editor of Adult books, the Associate Editor, Audio will oversee success of youth and adult audiobook coverage in Booklist, ensuring that reviews, features and related content meet librarians’ needs and encourage subscriptions, and that the audio coverage inspires related advertising growth. Track and manage process of audio reviews from sorting, selecting, and assigning to reviewers through editing and production to publication. Plan and edit enewsletter “All Things Audio,” assign and edit audio-related magazine features, and participate in marketing, webinars, and social media to promote specific content and Booklist in general. Other key responsibilities include the following:

• Maintain audio reviewer interest list, communicate regularly with reviewers. Train new reviewers to Booklist house style, audiobook review particulars, and procedure

• Select reviews for thematic sections and general inclusion in print or Booklist Online

• Write Starred Review annotations

• Ensure that downloads follow an appropriately adjusted process

• Assign or create spotlight features (Top 10 Lists, Now Hear This, Listen-Alike, annual audio award lists, etc.)

• Assign and edit features by contributors

• Select, interview, and write feature on the annual Voice of Choice, and select Editor’s Choice titles for youth and adult.

• Collaborate with marketing team on audiobook related webinars, audiobook related items in the media alert, and social media as requested.

• Participate in audio-related planning and other meetings, including Advisory Board.

• Work with Odyssey Award, Amazing Audiobooks, Notable Recordings, and Listen List committees to include lists/awards in Booklist.

SALARY: Negotiable from $25 an hour; based on relevant experience. This is a benefit eligible regular part-time position. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.

Strong literature, editorial, and/or publishing background; professional experience in a public or school library, or equivalent experience in publishing or education; proven writing and editing ability, preferably in a book–related field. Undergraduate degree in liberal arts or journalism; MLS preferred but not required. Communication skills, including social media and public speaking experience.
