Description The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, is seeking a Program Officer, Continuing Education.

Reporting to the Deputy Director, ALSC, the program officer will be responsible for the ALSC continuing education portfolio, including webinars, web courses, and in-person conference events, including the biennial, ALSC National Institute. Responsible for working with ALSC members to identify, develop, and produce continuing education content. Monitors the budget and coordinates logistics for, and evaluation of, online and in-person continuing education and conference events. Acts as staff liaison to multiple member committees.

Starting salary range from the mid-40s, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and a retirement annuity.

Requirements
Minimum of three years relevant work experience; and public or school library, non-profit, association, or higher education experience is preferred. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree with an emphasis on youth services, children’s literature or early literacy preferred.

Project management experience, with the organizational skills necessary to plan, budget, and execute a project within established and sometimes competing deadlines. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with a variety of continuing education platforms and content management systems including: Zoom, Moodle, iMIS, and Drupal, a plus.

Must be a self-starter, innovator, and creative problem solver with a professional demeanor. Able to negotiate and navigate stressful situations with a positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor. Also, strong written and verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail. The successful candidate will work well with ALA leadership, staff, and members, in addition to vendors and publishers.

This position is based in our Chicago headquarter but requires travel to the ALA Midwinter Meeting, the ALA Annual Conference and the ALSC National Institute.
