Description The American Library Association’s Office of ALA Governance is seeking a full-time Council Secretariat to serve our group of association member-leaders. If you’re a highly organized, detail-oriented analytical thinker and problem solver, this is your role!

Reporting to the Director of the Office of ALA Governance, the successful candidate will have these main areas of responsibility:

• ALA Council: Plan and organize the Midwinter and Annual Conference meetings of the 186-member ALA Council, including agenda building, document dissemination, script writing, and preparation of minutes.

• Committee volunteer program: Working with the ALA President-elect and Committee on Appointments and Committee on Committees, ensure that all 35 ALA and Council committees have the volunteers they need to carry out their work.

• Staff liaison to six committees: Set meeting agendas, participate in conference calls, attend meetings at conferences, serve as information resource.

• ALA Policy Manual: Ensure that the ALA Policy Manual is kept current.

Individual must be available to travel to week-long ALA Midwinter Meetings (January) and Annual Conferences (June). Must be willing to work long hours during these conferences to ensure that meetings run smoothly and efficiently.

SALARY: Negotiable from the mid 50s, based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.
