Description ALA is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join the Books for Youth department of Booklist Publications, a unit of ALA publishing.

Reporting to the Editor of the Books for Youth section, the Editorial Assistant will assist the Books for Youth staff by maintaining up-to-date and accurate records in the book review database; communicating clearly with freelancers, publishers, and other Booklist staff; and performing other duties as needed, all in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with many competing priorities.

Key responsibilities include the following:

• Accurately and quickly check books into Booklist’s in-house database
• Mail out materials for review consideration
• Help support a rotating cadre of interns on various tasks
• Maintain record of a variety of operations, including contact information, payment records, schedules, etc.
• Communicate regularly with freelancers, publishers, and others, both on the phone and in email

Salary: Negotiable from the low 30s based on relevant works experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in the Humanities; meticulous attention to detail; ability to multitask and manage competing priorities; excellent communication skills, both written and oral; well-developed computer skills (Microsoft office suite, in particular); typing ability; knowledge of libraries and/or book publishing helpful.
