Description The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is seeking a regular full-time Awards Coordinator.

Reporting to the Executive Director for ALSC, the program coordinator will assist in the management of ALSC’s book and media awards, professional awards and grants, and scholarship program. Additionally, the Awards Coordinator will assist with the planning and execution of related events and activities to promote, celebrate and enhance the overall awards program.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the preparation and distribution of committee rosters; updating committee manuals, resource materials, and the website; organizing the intake of review books; coordinating logistics for the award presentation programs such as the Newbery-Caldecott-Legacy Banquet; maintaining working relationships with selection committees, other youth literature award coordinators, award applicants, publishers, sponsors, and business contacts. Coordinate professional award applications and payments to recipients. Collect and process award-related communication, files and materials for the ALA Archive. The Awards Coordinator will increase the awareness and appeal of ALSC awards and scholarships through activities such as videos, journal articles, and blog posts.

This position is based in our Chicago headquarters, but requires travel to the ALA Midwinter Meeting, ALA Annual Conference, and the ALSC Arbuthnot Honor Lecture.

The successful candidate will work well with ALA leadership, staff, and members, in addition to vendors and publishers.

Starting salary range is negotiable from $20 an hour; based on relevant experience and qualifications. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and a retirement annuity.

• Minimum of three years of similar work experience, preferably with an association. Bachelor’s degree preferred in children’s literature, English, or related field. Prior work in youth library service is a plus.

• Proficiency using various social media platforms. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Sophisticated communication skills, both oral and written. Copyediting experience is a plus.

• Exemplary customer service and relationship-building acumen.

• Exercise independent judgment, discretion, and problem-solving skills.

• Strict attention to detail and strong critical thinking skills.

• Proven ability to meet multiple on-going project deadlines while adapting to changing (or unexpected shifts) in workflow.

• Excellent organizational ability while maintaining good internal communication.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, remaining calm under pressure.
