Description The American Library Association (ALA) is seeking a full-time Conference Content Manager to coordinate content planning for ALA conferences. This is a new role for the Association, and an exciting opportunity to enhance Conference Services products and collaborate with various ALA units in the curation of content. We are looking for an applicant with experience developing innovative programs and engaging learning activities. The ideal candidate will have insight of the educational needs and industry trends, within the library profession, to keep conference programming relevant to attendees.

Reporting to the Director of Conference Services, the Conference Content Manager will be responsible for:

• Working with ALA and ALA Division staff to develop content streams for the Midwinter Meeting (January) and the Annual Conference (June)

• Working with ALA Conference Committee to select, organize content, and sequence delivery

• Assessing and monitoring conference programs; identifying trends and making recommendations for future offerings

• Developing a model for extended virtual components to enhance the conference experience

• Coordinating materials for the conference program (ability to proofread and copy edit, a plus)

SALARY: Negotiable from the mid-60s; based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have significant knowledge of the profession and library community, including current trends. The ability to collaborate effectively with members and staff with diverse perspectives (strong interpersonal skills). Some level of meeting planning experience will be advantageous is this role. Excellent organization skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage competing deadlines over an extended period. A knowledge of establishing adult education credentialing programs a plus. Demonstrated ability to think analytically and creatively. Excellent customer service, problem solving and judgement skills. Travel to ALA conferences and competitive events required.

Requirements: Five to seven years of actual experience in librarianship and/or a similar position responsible for conference content, coordinating continuing education and/or professional development for librarians. Library science degree preferred in combination with relevant experience. Ability to communicate effectively and proactively to influence the action of others both verbal and written. Experience utilizing technology to deliver content (CadmiumCD) and proficiency in tools to organize, report and present information (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
