Title Coretta Scott King Book Awards Coordinator

Description The Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services (ODLOS) of the American Library Association seeks a regular part-time Awards Coordinator to assist in the management of the prestigious Coretta Scott King Book Awards, along with a variety of projects and events intended to promote, celebrate, and enhance the award.

The CSK Awards Coordinator has three primary focuses:

1. Coordination of the submission process for the Coretta Scott King Book Awards and the Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement. This will include working directly with jury members, publishers, and other youth literature awards coordinators.

2. Coordinating major events for the Coretta Scott King Book Awards, which includes the Youth Media Awards, the Coretta Scott King Book Award Breakfast, and the Virginia Hamilton Award Reception.

3. Supporting the activities and initiatives that contribute to the life of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards. This includes monitoring award seal sales, maintaining the Coretta Scott King Book Awards website, supporting the activities and initiatives of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards Community.


This position requires travel to the ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference.

This regular part-time, 21 hour per week, position is based in our Chicago headquarters, and reports to the Director of the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services. The successful candidate will work well with ALA leadership, staff, and members, in addition to vendors and publishers.

Starting salary range is negotiable from $20 an hour; based on relevant experience and qualifications. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and a retirement annuity.

Requirements
• Minimum three years related experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Proficiency using various social media platforms, MS Word and Excel a must.

• Strong communication skills.

• Strict attention to detail.

• Problem-solving skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, remaining calm under pressure.
