Description The American Library Association’s Development Office is seeking a full-time Development Communications Associate. We are looking for an outstanding writer and communicator, with strong organizational skills, to join our team at our Chicago headquarters.

Reporting to the Director of the Office, the successful candidate will have five main areas of responsibility:

• Writing and manage activities related to the ALA Annual Fund. This person will be the primary generator of online fundraising content all year, as well as be responsible for creating content for the ALA Annual Fund.

• Development Communications. This person will be the lead content provider for the ALA Annual Report. They will work closely with American Libraries Magazine to manage a schedule of fundraising related ads and identify fundraising related opportunities to pitch to American Libraries. They will also serve as a member of the ALA Social Media Team and participate in efforts to build awareness of ALA overall on social media channels.

• Gift processing. This person will share gift processing responsibilities, including gift entry; writing and producing thank you letters.

• Fundraising: this person will help write and manage sending out small-scale fundraising appeals.

• Donor cultivation and stewardship. This person will assist with stewardship activities related to Annual Conference and other ALA events.

SALARY: negotiable from the high 40s; based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.

Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, minimum of 3 years relevant experience. Excellent writing skills; experience with developing email and social media content and strategy; able to communicate an excitement about the value of libraries through writing; experience with iMIS or other relationship management database; experience with Drupal a plus; creative thinker; detail oriented and a team player.
