Title Membership and Marketing Manager, LITA

Description This role is designed for someone who is good at communicating, passionate about helping members increase their personal growth, and wants to proactively make things better. It is a new position for the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), and you’ll get to help shape it while also taking a lead role in our evolution to a more active, engaging, and welcoming organization.

You’ll Be in Charge of:

● Developing, running, and reporting on our annual membership recruitment, retention, engagement, and marketing plans

● Analyzing member pathways to involvement/leadership, increasing visibility of opportunities, and facilitating increased engagement around them, especially for virtual and micro-opportunities

● Designing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on the marketing and promotion of LITA products, services, and events

● Giving LITA an authentic and cohesive voice for the promotion of member benefits, our strategic goals, programs, services, and activities

● Mixing automated email campaigns, online community engagement, and other types of outreach to meet member needs and make LITA more welcoming

● Creating and developing LITA's news releases, promotional copy for our various web properties, news from the LITA office posted on social media and our blog, and other digital marketing content

● Developing strategy for segmenting members by persona and profile interests to create customized landing pages and pathways to engagement in ALA Connect

Salary
Negotiable from the mid-60s, based on relevant work experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation, and retirement annuity.

Requirements
Experience Requirements

These can be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in a related field, prior job experience, or continuing education.

● 5+ years demonstrated, progressive experience writing and managing promotional and marketing materials

● 3+ years’ experience in a library, association, or related organization that can provide insight into member needs and how to meet them

● Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects while still meeting deadlines

● An understanding of how to implement email blasts in marketing software (currently Informz), particularly automated campaigns and tracking conversions using Google Analytics and other tools

● Excellent promotional writing and management skills for print and online content (including for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and blogs)

● Familiarity with Association Management software (currently iMIS)

● Familiarity with online services such as the Google suite of products (Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms), Zoom, WordPress, Slack, and Canva

● The ability to travel 3-4 times each year for conference-related activity

● A demonstrated track record of developing and executing marketing, communication, and membership campaigns

● The analytical skills to measure success using membership and marketing data, iteratively improve marketing and communications, and translate data into easily understandable reports, dashboards, and visualizations

● Knowledge of best practices in membership and marketing

● Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities and working with different communication styles

● A strong customer service attitude and the ability to build collaborative relationships with members, volunteers, and other staff

● The desire to keep learning new things and applying them to improve processes and workflows in productivity, efficiency, and ease-of-use for both members and staff

● A genuine curiosity with a passion for learning, as well as for helping others and making things better

● A high degree of judgment, autonomy, and discretion to work with minimal supervision

● The initiative to question current practices, propose ideas, share opinions, and propose solutions
