Description The American Library Association (ALA) seeks a Project Manager in its Public Policy and Advocacy (PPA) office, based in Washington, D.C. The primary responsibility of this grant-funded position is to have day-to-day responsibility for our new Libraries Build Business initiative funded by Google.org as part of Grow with Google's efforts to ensure that technology brings opportunity to everyone.

ALA is the foremost national association for libraries and information centers in the world, delivering pragmatic solutions to pressing issues such as expanding economic opportunity, advancing education and learning in the global economy, as well as strengthening the public interest in information policy issues such as telecommunications, copyright/licensing, access to government information, funding, privacy and free speech.

The project manager will have the opportunity to improve small business & entrepreneurship opportunities through libraries, especially for low-income and/or underrepresented groups. Working with a cohort of 10-14 public libraries across the country, this project aims to identify best practices, codify them, and develop products and communications opportunities to disseminate this knowledge to all libraries. Concurrently, these 10-14 libraries will receive significant grant funding to improve their small business & entrepreneurship programs that focus on low-income and/or underrepresented groups.

Responsibilities:

● Manage the activities, administration and relationships of the project; track and coordinate project expenses.

● Organize and execute engagement with the grant cohort, Google staff, and other interested parties. Work with evaluation consultant.

● Organize and participate in the development of the peer-learning network, dissemination products and activities. Create & disseminate a playbook for program participants, to be made available to all libraries.

● Contribute to ALA’s knowledge base of library work related to small business & entrepreneurship and its impact in local communities.

● Leverage and connect the project to the larger work of the ALA, especially related to public policy.

Salary: Negotiable from the mid-60s, based on relevant experience. This is an 18-month benefit eligible grant-funded position. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and a retirement annuity.

Requirements
Undergraduate degree in a relevant social science or professional area or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. Graduate degree desirable. In addition, at least five years of relevant professional experience. Prior service as the project manager of a complex project highly preferred. Knowledge or prior experience in libraries, entrepreneurship or related economic opportunity topics desired, as is prior experience working with committees or other dispersed groups. This individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Some domestic travel will be required.
