Description The American Library Association (ALA) is seeking two full-time program coordinators to join its team in its Public Programs Office (PPO), located in Chicago, IL. These are grant-funded positions.

ALA is the foremost national association for libraries and information centers in the world, delivering pragmatic solutions to pressing issues such as expanding economic opportunity, advancing education and learning in the global economy, as well as strengthening the public interest in information policy issues such as telecommunications, copyright, access to government information, funding, privacy and free speech. ALA’s Public Programs Office (PPO) works to empower libraries to create vibrant hubs of learning, conversation and connection in communities of all types through public programs.

The program coordinator is generally the first point of contact for the hundreds of libraries annually that receive PPO programming grants, host traveling exhibitions, participate in professional development opportunities, and otherwise liaise with the Public Programs Office.

The program coordinator is responsible for planning and managing a heavy schedule of grant award and RFP deadlines, site report review, peer reviewer recruitment and organization through our grants management system; updating content on PPO websites and aligning content across websites and social media; handling technical and logistical support to the PPO online classroom; coordination of PPO event activities as needed; archiving PPO project materials and reports; and providing excellent customer service for the specific needs of a variety of audiences. This program coordinator also handles tracking of PPO financial transactions through ALA’s financial system, donor acknowledgement and processing and award administration.

COMPENSATION: Negotiable from the low40s; based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.

Minimum of three to four years relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. A strong candidate will have some knowledge of nonprofit library/education profession, literature and/or publishing; experience with event planning, problem-solving, and customer service; and possession of strong written and verbal communication skills. This position requires the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities with flexibility, creativity, and grace under pressure. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite programs is required. Familiarity with Drupal or other content-management systems is a plus, but not required.
