Description The American Library Association (ALA) seeks a full-time Associate Director in the Office for Accreditation at its Chicago headquarters. ALA is the oldest and largest association for libraries and information centers in the world, delivering pragmatic solutions to pressing issues such as expanding economic opportunity, advancing education and learning in the global economy, as well as strengthening individual rights such as privacy and free speech. The ALA Office for Accreditation coordinates and supports activities that are directly related to the accreditation of Master's programs in library and information studies (MLIS). The Associate Director’s responsibilities include development and maintenance of the office website, electronic publications, databases, and accreditation documentation. Support of volunteers working in the accreditation process is a major aspect of the work.

The Associate Director is responsible for developing and delivering face-to-face and virtual training sessions, and is editor for the Office for Accreditation newsletter. This position requires frequent communication with a variety of constituents: the Committee on Accreditation, volunteer reviewers, faculty at programs in the accreditation process, and prospective MLIS students.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience handling multiple, competing priorities and deadlines. Proven organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent judgment, and initiative are essential.

SALARY: Negotiable from the mid 50s; based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.

• Experience in or with higher education
